Principal Investigator

Dr. Lionel Faure (Him/His)

Clinical Assistant Professor

Dr. Lionel Faure got his Ph.D. in 2009 at the University of Bordeaux in the College of Health Sciences, Department of molecular biology and biochemistry. His Ph.D. was focused on studying lysolipid-acyltransferase in the plant model Arabidopsis thaliana. He did different postdocs in molecular biology at UNT, UGA, and TWU, working with plants, worms, and viruses. Since 2020 he has worked as a clinical assistant professor at Texas Woman's University. His work focuses on finding new genetic strategies to understand better how to redirect plants' carbon flow to lipid synthesis. His ultimate goal is to help create the next generation of biofuel crops to replace oil-based petroleum for transportation (e.g., cars, buses, and planes).

Dr. Adalvan D. Martins (Him/His)

Laboratory Services Supervisor/Adjunct Faculty

Dr. Martins got his bachelor's degree in agriculture engineering  and master's degree in plant science from the Federal University of Viçosa in Brazil where he mainly focused on researching plant oil quality for biodiesel production and new physical methods for the conservation of oil quality. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Federal University of Lavras where he worked on the physiological processes involved in plant susceptibility and tolerance to different abiotic stresses.

Dr. Martins has always been fascinated with understanding how plants work, grow, and interact with their environment.

Now, he is expanding his research interest by studying how to increase plant lipid content by expressing human viral genes and how they interact with plants' genetic and metabolic changes.
